Oriental Insurance Company Ltd came into existence on 12th of September 1947 in Bombay. A completely owned subsidiary of the Oriental Government Security Life Assurance Company Ltd, the company was brought to existence for carrying out General Insurance business. From the years 1956 to 1973, the company was a Life Insurance Corporation of India subsidiary. In the year 2003 all the shares of the company that was originally held by General Insurance Corporation of India was transferred to the Central Government.

Oriental Insurance has its head Office located at New Delhi. It consists of 26 Regional Offices and more than 900 operating Offices situated in different cities in India. The Company also has overseas operations operating in Nepal, Kuwait and Dubai.
